news Federation of Bloodstock Agents commits new annual funding to support RoR’s core mission

16th July 2025

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is pleased to announce a new funding agreement with the Federation of Bloodstock Agents (FBA), which will see a contribution of £100 per FBA member made annually from January 2026. This core funding support will help underpin the delivery of RoR’s strategic goals and its ongoing commitment to the welfare, retraining and rehoming of former racehorses.

As the UK’s official charity for the welfare of retired racehorses, RoR plays a pivotal role in ensuring a secure future for thousands of horses each year. While significant progress has been made in strengthening our funding model, sustained industry support remains critical.

David Catlow, Managing Director of RoR, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Federation of Bloodstock Agents for their commitment to supporting RoR’s core funding. This annual contribution is a significant and very welcome gesture that recognises the importance of long-term investment in the aftercare of racehorses. It reflects the shared responsibility across the industry for providing a safety net for former racehorses and could not come at a more important time as we continue to build a resilient and sustainable future for the charity.”

Oliver Gaisford-St. Lawrence, Chairman of the FBA, said: “The 60 highly regarded agents that form the Federation of Bloodstock Agents are delighted to start contributing as a trade body to the core funding of the reinvigorated RoR. The FBA stand for Integrity and Professionalism which dovetails with our undeniable social responsibilities to the horses that our businesses are based around. Individual FBA members have pledged to contribute more extensively, as we all recognise the essential need for the aftercare of horses.”

This agreement marks another positive step forward in RoR’s efforts to widen industry collaboration and diversify income sources as part of the RoR Strategy 2024–2026. Funding of this nature helps strengthen RoR’s operational capacity and directly contributes to the delivery of essential programmes of work.
