RoR social media policy

Introduction

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) welcomes the use of social media as a powerful tool for engagement, connection, and the celebration of horses lives after racing. We encourage open and respectful dialogue that reflects our shared commitment to the welfare and versatility of former racehorses.

This policy outlines expected standards of behaviour across all RoR digital channels, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter) and YouTube.

By engaging with RoR online, you agree to abide by the following guidelines.

Our online community standards

RoR is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful space for all users. You must not use RoR platforms to:

  • Harass, insult, bully or intimidate other members, users, RoR staff, volunteers, or representatives.
  • Make defamatory, inflammatory, misleading or false claims.
  • Post obscene, offensive, pornographic or otherwise inappropriate content, images or links.
  • Incite or encourage hatred, discrimination or violence, including based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability or sexual orientation.
  • Deliberately spread misinformation about RoR or others.
  • Disclose personal or private information without consent.
  • Pretend to be someone else or falsely claim to represent RoR.
  • Spam or repeatedly post unrelated or commercial content.
  • Advertise or promote products or services unless authorised by RoR.
  • Attempt to damage, disrupt or undermine RoR’s platforms or digital services.

We ask all users to remain civil, considerate and focused on constructive conversation. If you have concerns about RoR services or wish to raise a complaint, please do so via our formal complaints process.

If you have a complaint relating to the welfare of a horse in RoR competitions, events or ridden activity, please use the following guidelines and form.

How we moderate our channels

RoR reserves the right to hide, delete or report any post or comment that breaches this policy. We may also restrict or remove access to our platforms in line with the sanctions outlined below.

This includes content that, even if legal, goes against the spirit of this policy, for example, targeted negativity, repeated trolling, or deliberately undermining others in the RoR community.

Cyberbullying and harassment

RoR has zero tolerance for cyberbullying. This includes:

  • Mocking or humiliating others.
  • Spreading false or harmful rumours.
  • Targeting individuals with repeated negative comments or abuse.
  • Using fake accounts to intimidate or provoke others.
  • Posting images or content that could embarrass, belittle or cause distress to an individual.

If you feel you are being targeted, please report it to us directly via [email protected] or by calling 01488 648998.

Sanctions for breaches

Where a user is found to have contravened RoR’s social media policy, we may impose the following sanctions:

  • First offence: Written warning and removal of offending content.
  • Second offence: Six-month ban from all RoR social media platforms and removal of offending content.
  • Third offence: Permanent ban from all RoR social media platforms and removal of offending content.

RoR reserves the right to escalate sanctions immediately for severe or illegal conduct, including hate speech, threats, or harassment. We will report such behaviour to the relevant authorities where appropriate.

Disclaimer and liability

All content posted by followers or supporters on RoR platforms is the sole responsibility of the individual posting. RoR is not liable for any views expressed by users, nor does it endorse any third-party content.

We cannot guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of user-generated content but will take appropriate steps to address concerns raised.

Amendments to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in digital best practice, platform rules or our internal procedures. The latest version will always be available at www.ror.org.uk.
